Architecture for society

Sebastian Wagner sees architecture as a social responsibility that goes far beyond aesthetic design. With his internationally active SWA Group, he pursues an integrative approach that promotes social cohesion, cultural identity, and sustainable development. Wagner plans and implements projects that respond to local needs and incorporate participatory processes – especially in regions affected by social or ecological inequality.

A particular focus is on international energy and infrastructure projects, including those commissioned by the World Bank, where ecological responsibility and social participation are central. Architecture becomes a tool for development and social empowerment.

Influential cultural projects such as the Solidarnosc Center in Gdansk, the Chiado cultural quarter in Lisbon, and the Lichtwerk in Berlin-Lichtenberg demonstrate Wagner's ability to create places of exchange and remembrance. These spaces combine clear, symbolic formal language with functional openness and enable civic engagement at the architectural level.
