Be Light
This article is under development and will be continued...
This is about light and the different aspects and meanings of light in a personal and wider sense. Since I was engaged in a bigger artist exhibition project in Berlin "Epochen der Moderne" in the Martin Gropius Bau in 1997, I worked with several artist such as James Turrell, Dan Flavin oder Lichtkünstler der jüngeren Geneeration wie Philipp Geist and others.
As an architect my job was to guarantee that the environment of the Martin Gropius Bau and the art works of the artist had to unite, means that the Martin Gropius Bau as a "Kulisse" was able to stand for the art of the artists. I personally build the light Room of James Turrell and learned the precision it needs to bring this work into vibration.
From there onwards I got deeply interested in working with light and started to do works in Berlin
(Fischerinsel, ..) and other places (Goethe Institut Rotterdam, light facade of the Institute etc)
My main interest and concern about light is, ,that it is a visible connection between the spirit and the physical body.
In this specific case it can be a material body or even the human body. Through the last years I had been experiencing and researching about this subject. And this is what the following text is about:
The Moment to experience to be light on the moon pyramid of Teotihuacán
"The Pyramid of the Moon is the second largest pyramid in modern-day San Juan Teotihuacán, Mexico, after the Pyramid of the Sun. It is located in the western part of the ancient city of Teotihuacan and mimics the contours of the mountain Cerro Gordo, just north of the site. Some have called it Tenan, which in Nahuatl, means "mother or protective stone." The Pyramid of the Moon covers a structure older than the Pyramid of the Sun. The structure existed prior to 200 AD.
The Pyramid's construction between 200 and 250 AD completed the bilateral symmetry of the temple complex. A slope in front of the staircase gives access to the Avenue of the Dead, a platform atop the pyramid was used to conduct ceremonies in honor of the Great Goddess of Teotihuacan, the goddess of water, fertility, the earth, and even creation itself. This platform and the sculpture found at the pyramid's bottom are thus dedicated to The Great Goddess.
Opposite the Great Goddess's altar is the Plaza of the Moon. The Plaza contains a central altar and an original construction with internal divisions, consisting of four rectangular and diagonal bodies that formed what is known as the "Teotihuacan Cross."" - Wikipedia
personal story
Behind any knowledge lays a personal story, an experience, which we as human beings like to share and be in contact with. In the first 3 decades of my life I was exploring and experimenting through travelling and art performances where I was testing the ancient stories such as the "Labyrinth of Crete" with the Thesaurus, At the "Hochschule der Künste Berlin" we had this subject in the 80th and developed a deeper interest to recognise the myth and master it.
"The labyrinth is an intricate combination of paths or passages in which it is difficult to find one's way or to reach the exit." - http://www.dictionary.com/browse/labyrinth
I started to do self written rituals and invited others to join it.(Utopica Art Session in Cornwall, "Labyrinthum Novum in Turin, Labyrinth in Formine). At that time I was very unconscious about my own actions and was simply following my instincts. how more I worked on it, I understood that I am working with universal powers and that I tried to understand what these powers have to do with my life and life itself.
But how more I enduldge myself in this flow of energy how more I disconnected from my very soul. I felt how it influenced me to do those actions and how more I did them I recognised that they got me, so I was not driven by a pure essence but by "sex and drugs and rock´n roll", to use a phrase which describes it well.
